This is a free illustration of an oracle bone used in bokusen, an ancient Chinese method of divination. In this practice, characters were carved into animal bones or turtle shells—such as ox scapulae or plastrons—and then heated until they cracked. The resulting patterns were interpreted to determine good or bad fortune.

Oracle bones are considered one of the earliest forms of written records in East Asia and are often associated with rituals, omens, and early statecraft. Use this image in historical content, occult-themed projects, or any work that explores ancient belief systems.
